The simple luxury of nature

Combining simple elegance with natural beauty and a commitment to improving the environment and the local community, Playa Viva is a sustainable boutique resort located on the western coast of Mexico, just 35-minutes south of Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa International Airport (ZIH). Nestled between the sparkling waters of the Pacific Ocean and the majestic Sierra Madre Mountains near the village of Juluchuca, Playa Viva rests on a mile of pristine and private beach.

Start each day with a beachside yoga practice and utilize a restorative evening session to release muscle tension from the days’ activities. There are so many options at Playa Viva — relax all day on your private beach, or book activities such as hiking, surfing, and exploring local culture. • Playa Viva

    Playa Viva

Playa Viva is situated on a mile of pristine private beach surrounded by lush green palms. With its subtle charm, the teeming life of its estuary, the hills overlooking the beach and small lagoon (which was later discovered to be an archeological site), the broad expanse of beach and the Turtle Sanctuary, it’s a one of a kind destination. Owned by husband and wife Sandra Kahn and David Leventhal, Playa Viva operates under these core principles:

    — Use Cleaner and More Abundant and – Transparent – Energy, Water and Waste Streams
    — Promote and Create Biodiversity
    — Create Transformational Experiences
    — Promote Meaningful Community
    — Create a Living Legacy

  • Farm to Table Dining

    Farm to Table Dining

Playa Viva food is what we would describe as healthy Mexican. We focus on traditional Mexican meals, but we cook with minimal oil and healthy, local ingredients. We strive to get as many organic ingredients as possible and grow as much of our food on site as we can (on our small farm). Farm to table is an aspirational goal for us with the objective that our chef and kitchen team have a direct relationship with the producers of each item on your plate. Because of this close connection to the food we serve, we are able to accommodate a wide variety of dietary concerns including vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, omnivore and even Kosher, not to mention special care to address any allergies, gluten free, sugar free and other food concerns.

  • Experience the Real Mexico

    Experience the Real Mexico

Whether it’s exploring the stunning natural landscape of the Mexican coast or the local communities around Playa Viva, there are a variety of tours and activities to satisfy your desires. The focus of our excursions is to connect you with local operators who promote activities that will engage you with the local community and the environment.

You may choose adventures on land or on the ocean, on a farm or in a home, but they will all leave you with an authentic experience you won’t find anywhere else.

  • Turtle Sanctuary

    Turtle Sanctuary

Playa Viva founded La Tortuga Viva (LTV) in 2010 to protect endangered turtles native to the area: Olive Ridley or “Golfina” turtles, Green or “Negra” and Leatherback or “Laud” turtles). Since then, LTV has safely released over 450,000 baby sea turtles. LTV is staffed by an all-volunteer team comprised of members of the local community of Juluchuca.

While staying at Playa Viva, if baby turtles are available, experience releasing this unique being to the ocean one morning.
